The Morris Minor was designed in 1948 by Alec Issigonis, later responsible for the Mini. A ‘quest for perfection’, the Minor was a new breed of small car for everyman. The Minor was the first British car to reach sales of over a million worldwide.
The convertible or soft top four seat tourer was introduced in October 1956 as part of the Minor 1000 range. This car boasts the larger 948cc engine which was used from 1956. A very popular model, the convertible remained in production until June 1969 and is still much sought after.
This car has been restored by trainees on the museum’s Healthy Working Lives scheme. The pictures here show various stages of the restoration.
